BEFORE PLAY

• choose your battle axe - choose Glove Racket by size
• choose your game 1v1, 2v2, 1v2 (king of the hill)
• flip a coin or a glove racket to choose Serve or Side
• winner of the coin toss may choose to serve first or choose their side - but not both
• in 2v2, players must choose their positions before each game (ref. SERVING)

SCORING

HAND TENNIS EDITION & PICKLE EDITION

• played with rally scoring: points can be won by the serving and receiving team
• each game is played to 11 points.
• a match consists of 3 out of 5 or 4 out of 7 games.

• The winner must win by at least 2 points.
• Each team gets one 90 second timeout per game.

SERVING

SINGLES SERVING RULES

• each player serves twice before switching servers
• the 1st serve is done in the right box and the 2nd serve is done in the left box
• the ball is served behind the baseline into the box across (image below)

• players get 2 attempts to successfully serve
• if the server double faults the opponent gains a point.

• players have 24 seconds to serve the ball

DOUBLES SERVING RULES

• before each game, players must decide which position they want to play
• left wing | right wing (left box position or right box position)
• each player gets 2 serves (just like in singles)
• the right wing position serves first, (1st serve in the right box, 2nd serve in the left box. 
• then the left wing position on the same team will serve in the same manner
• this means both teams get 4 serves before switching the serving side
• players on the serving side may change positions for their required serve
• the receiving team must stay in their positions while receiving serves
• once the ball served, players may change positions any way they choose

RALLIES

ON ANY COURT
• the ball can be returned with any part of the body and/or glove racket

• if the ball bounces off any part of the body, the player receives an extra hit
• the ball must be contacted cleanly, not caught, lifted, or thrown
• the contact of the ball must not be past the net or over the opponents side
• if teams cannot determine the legality of the hit, replay the point
• the rally ends and a point is awarded when:

     the ball is hit outside the designated lines

     the ball bounces twice on one side
     the ball is hit into the net
     the server double faults


HAND TENNIS EDITION
• players may charge the net and volley right after serving the ball

PICKLE EDITION
• serving team may not volley or charge the net after serving

• players may step into the kitchen only if the ball bounces on their side
• players may not volley inside of the kitchen
